Virgo is astrology’s eternal hub of mildness and modesty. The mutable earth sign is known for its quiet dedication and its measured, unassuming character. But in 2026, its Sun cycle will see the onset of a struggle between the head and the heart, one likely to intensify and last well into autumn. In one corner, Mercury, the planet associated with intelligence, has home-field advantage in Virgo. The sign’s rationality, logic and impeccable analytical abilities are well suited to the ingenious Messenger. Additionally, Venus, Uranus and Pluto are transiting air signs, the element associated with the mental plane. Mercury himself will ingress into the cardinal air of Libra on September 10th, when Uranus begins its retrograde. On the opposing side, Venus, the planet of valuables and relationships, will exit her Libra home for honest, passionate Scorpio, also on September 10th. With her retrograde due to begin on October 3rd, one that will eventually coincide with a Mercury retrograde in Scorpio, the battle lines amongst minds and hearts are being drawn now.
On August 22nd the Sun will enter thoughtful, organized and orderly Virgo, followed by Mercury on the 25th. The two planets will then conjoin on the 27th, under the full Pisces Moon. and on an eclipse. On the 28th, they will square electric, innovative Uranus, presently in Mercury’s other home sign of Gemini. These are stellar conditions for brainstorming and brilliant breakthroughs. Next, Mercury’s move into Libra will set up its trines to Uranus and Pluto on the 12th. In turn, those collaborations are foreshadowing the next Uranus Pluto trine, due on November 19th, at 3º 32′. They may also be echoing themes that emerged under their first trine on July 18th at 4º 30′. The powerhouse planets will form three more trines after November, as part of a much broader cycle. The others will occur on June 15th, 2027 at 6º 52′, January 13th, 2028 at 6º 20′, and finally May 9th, 2028 at 8º 49′. So it would appear that the cerebral, fact-based forces have a distinct and potent advantage. But when Venus slips into emotional Scorpio, she will ignite a series of squares to Pluto, beginning on September 15th.
These squares embody another dimension of the heart versus head conflict, in that Scorpio is the fixed water sign while Aquarius is the fixed air one. Furthermore, Scorpio is ruled by Pluto, and both possess an intense and relentless drive to discover the truth. Under their pressure, platitudes and empty promises won’t cut it, and Libra-based facades and pleasantries are bound to give way to Scorpio-based emotional honesty. That’s the rub. Venus seeks understanding, fairness and harmony, and Scorpio demands candor. Scorpio is also where Venus’s forthcoming retrograde will begin. That one will run from October 3rd to November 13th and from 8° Scorpio 29′ to 22° Libra 52′. Mercury’s Rx will begin on October 24th, under the Scorpio Sun, span 20° Scorpio 59’ to 5° Scorpio 02’ and also conclude on November 13th. The remaining Venus Pluto squares are due on October 20th (during the Venus retrograde) and on December 9th (following both retrogrades). So, heading into this Virgo Sun cycle, it’s important to recognize the currents taking shape now. The work may not lie in choosing one side over another, but in integrating the various and often conflicting truths about to be revealed.
