Forecast Aug 10-16, 2020: Riding The Roller Coaster

Do you remember childhood summers when you excitedly waited on enormous lines to ride the area amusement park’s biggest, scariest roller coaster? Back then talk of soaring to its peaks and dropping precipitously consumed conversations with playmates, sometimes for weeks in advance of the outing. This astrologer is starting to think of 2020 as one ginormous ride. As an adult, the awareness that even the most thrilling excursion ultimately comes to its end is comforting, especially as we head into yet another week of twists and turns and ups and downs.

Monday’s Taurus Moon wants to assure us that all is calm and secure. In fact, early in the morning it will be in mutual reception to Venus when it forms a sextile to her in soothing Cancer. This is a bit like sitting down and getting strapped into our cart. When departing the platform the pace is slow, yet anticipation is palpable. We know that chaotic Uranus is also in Taurus, so sudden excitement is imminent and inevitable. Mischievous Mercury in Leo will offer the first hair-pin turn when it squares Uranus. Next the Moon and Uranus will link up, signaling that our wild ride is well underway. The Moon and Mercury will square next, and by late Tuesday morning the Moon will inch uphill readying us for the first giant drop, a square to the Leo Sun. Though a daunting dip, Leo’s sunny disposition rejoices in the play and helps us laugh at whatever is happening. All the while, that Taurus Moon is forming a series of trines with Jupiter, Pluto and Saturn in Capricorn, the sign of structure. The scaffolding is solid.

On Wednesday the Moon moves into friendly Gemini, where it will heighten social connections through Friday evening. But, for daredevils, pleasantly gliding along even rails is boring. Upstart Mars in combustable Aries will have none of that. On Thursday morning, via a square to Pluto, he will push us over the week’s steepest and most harrowing downslope, at breakneck speed. This is when both hands grab the safety bar and there’s typically a lot of screaming. It is the first of three squares between these two fearsome forces, and they’re poised to impact the economy. Making sure one’s wallet is safely tucked away, long before embarkment, isn’t a bad idea. Our stomaches get a chance to recover on Friday night when the Moon slips into nurturing Cancer, where it will conjoin Venus on Saturday morning. An hour later, unruly Uranus will station retrograde. Our adventure is winding down. A five-month unplug of this electrifying planet will give many of us the opportunity to catch our breath. It will also put the speed brakes on the incoming shocks and surprises Uranus has been doling out since January. Sunday brings the week’s most euphoric aspects, as the Sun and Mercury form exact trines to inexhaustible Mars. It’s time to enthusiastically regale friends and family with our celebratory and triumphant tales of navigating the week’s uproarious ride.

Forecast Aug 3-9, 2020: One Step Forward, One Step…

After the dust settles from Monday’s full Aquarius Moon, this week will see sign changes for Mercury and Venus. But before even lightening-fast Mercury can bust a move into fiery Leo on Tuesday, Mars will get into it with Jupiter. With Mars now firmly ensconced in its home sign of Aries, and in fact already into the shadow zone of its next retrograde, the conflicts with planets in fellow cardinal signs will continue into autumn. In effervescent Aries, Mars is raring to go. But the squares it will form with the Capricorn contingency, of Jupiter, Pluto and Saturn, will be checking Martian impulses at every turn. This week’s battle with Jupiter will be followed by squares to Pluto on the 13th and Saturn on the 24th. This is astrological shorthand for “No pain, no gain.” Hard work doesn’t need to be depressing. In fact, it can be full of inspiration.
Mercury’s ready for its run through courageous, confident Leo. In the regal sign, it will be closely allied with the Sun, and by the 16th the Sun and Mercury will trine enthusiastic Mars. These are some of the month’s most uplifting energies, and the time to begin harnessing this cosmic firepower is now. Mercury’s Leo visit is quick, from the 4th through the 19th. While we get a boost from the Sun, Mercury and Mars, Venus will slip into Cancer on Friday. Venus desires nothing more than harmony and pleasure. In Cancer, however, she will be on course for direct confrontations with Jupiter, Pluto and Saturn and a clash with Mars. The oncoming struggles suggest that we may be paying too high a price to keep an uneasy peace. Emotional and domestic issues that arose while the Sun and Mercury were in the Cancer will have another shot at resolution. Venus will be in Cancer from August 7th through September 6th, before joining the Leo party.  On the flip side, if your home already is your oasis, Venus will enhance the tranquility you’re experiencing there.

Forecast Jul 27-Aug 2, 2020: Whole Lotta Shaking

A collection of challenging aspects starts a week that leads us right up into a formidable, fixed sign full Moon. If you can sit this week out, great. If not, at least try to keep away from the contention. On Monday alone normally pleasant Venus will square Neptune and Mercury will square Mars, Venus will also form one of those out of sorts quincunxes with Jupiter, and Jupiter will form its next sextile to Neptune. All of that will take place with a Scorpio Moon lurking. While the largest aspect is the harmonious one, the Jupiter Neptune sextile, both planets are operating under the subdued power of their retrogrades. Most of the day’s confrontations involve the personal planets, Mercury, Venus and Mars, and all connections encompass at least one of the emotional water signs. Buttons are bound to be pushed. Scorpio, much like its ruling planet Pluto, hunts for the truth and is willing to dig it up from the deepest, darkest places. When exposing betrayal, lies or wrongdoing, this power is laudable. When used to win at all costs, its fight to the death tactics are extremely destructive. Scorpio is also one of astrology’s inflexible fixed signs, and before the day is over that Scorpio Moon will clash with the Sun in fixed Leo and Uranus in fixed Taurus. If left unresolved, struggles that arise out of those collisions will intensify on Sunday when the Leo Sun squares Uranus and on the following Monday, August 3rd, under the full (fixed) Aquarius Moon. If you’re a fixed sign (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio or Aquarius) or dealing with a fixed sign person, choose your words wisely or wait for better conditions. Midweek gives us a bit of a breather, and perhaps more favorable timing.
The Moon moves into cheerful Sagittarius on Wednesday, as Venus finally clears her recent retrograde’s shadow zone. Once the fog from Monday’s fight with Neptune clears, she’ll be ready to chart new territory in romance and finance. In sociable Gemini, she will also be in a friendlier mood. Tricky Mercury is being naughty and nice on Thursday, by opposing extravagant Jupiter while trining peaceful Neptune. Jupiter in Capricorn is guarding the purse strings, with Saturn and Pluto on its side of the arguments. But in the wake of Monday’s Jupiter Neptune collaboration, Mercury has a potent and compassionate lobbyist in Neptune. Getting creative may indeed be the best option for solving material or financial problems. Mercury, still in domestic Cancer, is scheduled for two more battles over the budget. The following one takes place on Saturday, with almighty Pluto, and the final one is with unyielding Saturn on August 3rd. Saturn and Pluto are in conservative Capricorn, and that Saturn skirmish will take place under the Aquarius full Moon, when the fixed signs will be at peak logjam. Full Moons represent maximum energy points. In the Moon’s waning stage, the two weeks after a full Moon, tensions subside and ease. It also takes a couple of weeks for the energy of outer planet aspects to degrade. Sunday’s Sun Uranus square will contribute to the fixed sign, full Moon strain and take a few weeks to work its way out of our systems. So again, if you can ride this one out or find a shady tree to meditate under, things will shake out.

Forecast Jul 20-26, 2020: The Call To Adventure

Each fire sign is a force of nature unto itself. Add two hyper-vitalizing planets to the mix, and bang! During the 2020 Leo Sun cycle, passions will run extra hot when Mars brings his audacious Aries kindling to Leo’s homecoming celebration. The red planet will of course continue his Aries transit until early 2021. But the September 9th start of his forthcoming retrograde will temper his firepower and considerably cool his proverbial jets. That makes the incoming Leo Sun cycle all the more critical of a time to strike while the iron is hot or to at least take in this cosmic boost of inspiration and drive. It all starts on Wednesday when the Sun returns to Leo. But before we get there, another reboot of sorts is on offer.

There’s a new Moon in Cancer midday on Monday, followed by the then still Cancer Sun’s opposition to strict Saturn. Though this is a potent Moon, clocking in at 28 degrees, Saturn’s presence suggests that our intentions remain realistic. Mercury, now picking up speed since stationing direct on July 12th, will continue making waves in Cancer until August 4th, and on August 7th Venus will venture into the cardinal water sign. While there, like the Sun before them, they will face oppositions from Jupiter, Pluto and Saturn. Thematically, we are continuing to work through any issues concerning home, family and security that have emerged since summer solstice. But languishing in the ebb and flow of moody Cancer is no longer an option. The upcoming oppositions will be forcing more decisions through early September, and Mars has begun adding pressure. On July 27th he forms his second square to Mercury, the bookend to their July 8th clash, and on September 4th he will create another choice point with Venus. The ongoing battle with Mercury has been bringing our attention to frustrations and feelings that have needed expression. The challenge has been to speak our minds, without biting someone else’s head off. Helpfully, the July 27th Mercury Mars meeting takes place in the wake of a superseding and ultra-cooperative Jupiter Neptune sextile.

Cancer isn’t the only front feisty Mars will be fighting on. At home in saucy, headstrong Aries, the warrior is also set to confront Jupiter, Pluto and Saturn, via the more contentious squares. Those take place on August 4th, 13th and 24th, with more combat scheduled in autumn. Unlike the oppositions which occur on a continuum, squares bring matters to a head and demand resolution. The coming conflicts are taking place amongst the instigating cardinal signs. Something new is finding, if not forcing, its way to the surface. Like clockwork, the Sun is arriving into warm, enthusiastic Leo. Under the regal spotlight we can decode the individual instructions of the unfolding celestial mandate to bravely forge into the unknown.

In Greek mythology, Apollo was the Sun god. His realms included prophecy, healing and music, and the nine Muses were among his progeny. Understandably, in modern astrology Leo describes the unique gifts and talents each of us possesses, as well as our creative capacity. Sun-ruled Leo is also associated with king-making. At some point on the mythic journey, the imperiled hero is required reach deep inside, for some intuited but not yet actualized piece of himself. He or she cannot proceed further without taking this test, and succeeding. Destiny is at work. The Sun’s homecoming is our annual reminder of purpose, of the particular treasures lying within each of us, and of our role in uncovering and sharing them with the world. In 2020, daring Mars has come to Apollo’s aid, and ours. Will we have the moxie to answer their call to adventure?

Forecast Jul 13-19, 2020: Home Is Where The Heart Is

Home is one of Cancer’s core concerns. Each year when the Sun rolls through this cardinal water sign family, home and the emotions we attach to them are emphasized. 2020, with its shelter-in-place orders, restaurant closures and work from home business initiatives, has placed even more focus on our dwelling places. This week, a potent Cancer Sun is set to run headlong into Jupiter and Pluto, and the planet that Cancer rules, the Moon, has an eventful journey of its own.

Back in January we experienced a Saturn Pluto conjunction in Capricorn, immediately followed by a full Cancer Moon and eclipse. That time coincided with the emergence of COVID-19 as a global health threat. Capricorn is interested in business, and six months on, the economic impact of the pandemic is becoming more and more apparent. This week a potent late degree Cancer Sun will oppose Jupiter on Tuesday and Pluto on Wednesday. By next Monday’s new Cancer Moon, that Cancer Sun will oppose Saturn at an even stronger degree. In short, we have a week full of reverberations from the Saturn Pluto conjunction of January ahead of us. In the macro-economy, cracks in the once booming U.S. real estate sector have begun to show. Nearly 9% of all federally backed mortgages are in forbearance, in several markets delinquency rates on mortgage payments have doubled year over year, and heavyweight analysts Corelogic are forecasting a 6.6% decline in housing prices for 2020. June is historically a good month for home sales. This is due to seasonal relocation, and in 2020, it was the first chance that many buyers and sellers had to participate in the market. So some metrics from June 2020 will look positive. But informative Mercury in Cancer and retrograding Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto in Capricorn are likely to reveal a harsher and more sobering reality. Also, in between this week’s solar oppositions to Jupiter and Pluto, the Moon will conjoin Uranus in Taurus. Taurus is the fixed earth sign that deals with resources, real estate and banking, and Uranus is the global influencing, outer planet that brings disruption to what it touches. Because Jupiter, Uranus and Pluto are in play, collectively we may be assessing the moral hazards of owners of multiple properties using legal entities to avoid taxation, poor treatment of tenants by corporations in the home rental business or hedge funds buying trailer parks. For most, however, homes are not simply about money. They represent something much deeper. When traversing these more intimate and emotional caverns, astrology offers the Moon.

After making that connection to chaotic Uranus on Tuesday, the Moon will move on to logical, rational Gemini late Wednesday night. By late Thursday evening it will conjoin Venus, the planet that describes who we love and what we value. This meeting may be a good reminder of what is important to us, and it offers mental clarity for decision-making. On Saturday morning the Moon will enter Cancer and its dark phase. Dark Moons represent purging, release and endings. In sentimental Cancer, our heart strings will no doubt be pulled by this Moon. If all of these months at home have led you to evaluate your material possessions or to consider other housing options, this weekend’s dark Moon will help you determine what you’re ready to let go of or what you want to transform. This of course includes stagnant stories and emotions. We’ll begin the following week with that new Cancer Moon, at a hefty 28 degrees, and opposed to pragmatic Saturn. So a little dark Cancer Moon sweeping, and perhaps weeping, may clear the way for improvements.

Forecast Jul 6-12, 2020: Rejuvenation Station

Though barely half over, for many Earthlings 2020 has already been a long year. This week the planets are offering some gentle relief, powerful psychic insight and a second wind, courtesy of the healing, relaxing water signs. By Sunday the Mercury retrograde will be over and a spirit-alchemizing Sun trine to Neptune will be exact. Before we get there, there is a little friction, via a Mercury square to Mars early Wednesday. But if we sidestep provocation or at least thoughtfully express our positions, molehills will remain molehills. Mellow Pisces provides perspective and a desire to work toward inclusive, holistic solutions. Following the Mercury Mars square, the Moon will conjoin Neptune during its Pisces visit, from Wednesday through late Friday night. This will buoy the building Sun Neptune trine. Presently the Sun and Mercury are in Cancer, the cardinal water sign that nurtures. Retrogrades allow us to pause, reflect and realign where needed. If we go with the cosmic flow of this week, we can emerge refreshed, rejuvenated and ready to tackle part two of 2020.

Forecast Jun 29-Jul 5, 2020: Getting It Done

When a week begins with giant Jupiter making an exact conjunction with powerful Pluto and it ends with a full Capricorn moon and lunar eclipse, big things are on the table. Throw Saturn retrograding back into enterprising Capricorn, Mars firing up the engines in Aries and the Sun and Mercury making connections with wildcard Uranus from cardinal Cancer, and you don’t have to wait for the Fourth of July for some fireworks.

The emphasis is now firmly on the initiating cardinal signs. These are astrology’s best tools for motivation, invigoration and activation. This week’s action gets off to a seismic start late Monday night when Jupiter and Pluto have their second of three 2020 meetings. The last time that these two joined forces was on April 4th, when the USA was going into lockdown and the CARES Act was being passed. Their second meeting, in the sign of banking, business and government, takes place while the airwaves are already abuzz with talk of PPP 2.0 and the next round of stimulus checks for Americans. This time, however, these planets are retrograde, along with Mercury, Saturn and Neptune. Also, Saturn is about to leave the humanitarian realms of Aquarius for austere Capricorn. Congress isn’t scheduled to get back to work until mid July, and second wave spikes in COVID-19 are also already taking place. So even big guns like Jupiter and Pluto will have to keep their powder dry a bit longer. But when the next package is finalized, we can expect it to be supersized.

The news cycle is set for its own spike on Tuesday afternoon when the Sun and Mercury sextile Uranus, the planet of shock and awe, and the Sun and Mercury take a meeting of their own in between those Uranus hookups. On Wednesday Saturn returns home to pragmatic Capricorn. This places the planet of structure and discipline back on terra firma and into the same sign as Jupiter and Pluto. Its retrograde motion will bring the three closer together, from now through mid December. Underscoring the week’s decidedly Capricorn essence, the moon will move into the cardinal earth sign on Friday and prepare for its Sunday zenith at 13 Cap 38 and a lunar eclipse. We’re moving from Q2 to Q3 of 2020 and from the first half of the year to the second. In the macro, Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto will concentrate on the economy. In the micro, Mars will prompt and prod us into action. This is a good week to consider yearend goals and to begin harnessing the power of Capricorn to accomplish them.

Forecast Jun 22-28, 2020: Reflecting Pool

Beginning on Saturday June 27th, rambunctious Mars will reclaim and dominate his home turf of fiery, feisty Aries. Once there, the combustable ferocity of the red planet will be interlocked with the raw, direct energy of the cardinal fire sign, for the next six months. Before the fireworks ignite, Mars will transit the potent, late degrees of mellow, meditative Pisces. While he’s doing that, Pisces’ ruler Neptune will slip into its retrograde and Venus will emerge from her retrograde slumber. An abundance of nurturing Cancer energy is also on tap this week. The Sun and Mercury are in the intuitive water sign, and waves from the new Cancer moon and eclipse of June 21st are still reaching shores. On the surface, Venus will animate our material desires and attractions from social Gemini, and Mars, especially when in Aries, will activate our drive to attain them. But, leagues beneath the sea, it’s Neptune’s behind-the-scenes orchestration that’s worthy of consideration.

Neptunian Questions
What am I striving for?
What transformation am I seeking?
What does redemption mean to me?
Where am I experiencing urgency in terms of my life plans and purpose?
How can I bring divine clarity and alignment into my present, daily life?

Starting late Monday, Neptune will enter a five month review period. Its contemplative power asks us to examine, understand and evaluate our motivations and their purpose in our lives. Like all of the outer planets, Neptune is subtle and impersonal. It’s also associated with mysticism, hidden memory and the unconscious. So fully grasping, much less getting a firm grip on its meaning and messages can indeed prove illusive. Furthermore, under the influence of this giant, borderless and effusive planet, we can glean profound guidance just as easily as we can fritter away the next five months daydreaming. So learning how to distill this oceanic force into manageable increments might be a good way to access its tremendous yet impressionistic insight. Prayer, meditation or creative practice may open and sustain channels of Divine communication. Then again, grocery store epiphanies can be equally as valuable and provable when Neptune is evoked. But actively seeking helps. This retrograde lasts until November 28th, and its start coincides with Mercury’s current retrograde in the fellow water sign of Cancer. All of the water signs are intrinsically psychic. Atop the waves, where most of us are comfortable swimming, the logical Messenger may be functioning as a translator, between us and Neptune’s vast, esoteric realms. And perhaps, it’s provocative Mars at peak Pisces, who is prompting us toward deeper exploration.

Forecast Jun 15-21, 2020: Making Moves

This week’s events include the start of Mercury’s retrograde in Cancer, the Sun’s entrance into Cancer and an annular solar eclipse at 0 Cancer 21. This move from the mutable air of Gemini to the cardinal water of Cancer will shift the collective emphasis from social activity to traditional Cancer themes of home and domestic security. The eclipse is part of the Cancer/Capricorn cycle, so it is connected with the eclipses of December 26, 2019 and January 10, 2020, as well as the Saturn Pluto conjunction of January 12th, in Capricorn. Because those occurred at the outset of the international spread of COVID-19 and because of the dawning Mercury retrograde, I strongly suspect that this will translate into the reinstatement of shelter in place type orders and another wave of the virus. I really hope that I’m wrong about that. In any case, the indecision and confusion of the mutable signs are set to be replaced by the assertive character of the cardinals.

This week’s Sun sign shift will be followed by Mars moving into Aries on the 27th, the year’s second Jupiter Pluto conjunction in Capricorn on the 30th, Saturn’s return to Capricorn on July 1st and the final Cancer/Capricorn eclipse in the series on July 5th. If you’ve been sitting on the fence for the past month or season, your days of contemplation are numbered. The presence of so many planets in the activating cardinal signs is a cosmic push forward. Spearheading the drive will be none other than Mars. Due to its coming retrograde, starting in September, this Mars transit of Aries will last for over six months. Astrologers give a Mars homecoming mixed reviews. It is fuel, not inherently bad or good in and of itself. It’s what we do with its fire power that makes all the difference. Simultaneously, Jupiter and Saturn will be in Capricorn until mid December. Their presence, and Pluto’s, will square Mars, creating friction and choice points. Now is the time to determine priorities for the second half of 2020. Mercury’s presence and retrograde in nurturing and instigating Cancer will re-mind us of what is most important and give us needed nudges.

Forecast Jun 8-14, 2020: Across The Universe

Sounds of laughter, shades of earth are ringing through my opened ears,
Inciting and inviting me.
Limitless, undying love which shines around me like a million suns,
And calls me on and on across the Universe
Jai Guru Deva, Om”
-Lennon/McCartney

When describing Mars as the servant of two selves, the ego self and the transpersonal self, Jungian analyst Edward Edinger said, “Man’s extremity is God’s opportunity.” This week will be largely shaped by the Sun’s square to Neptune on Thursday, Saturday’s Mars Neptune conjunction and the three-day Pisces Moon bridging those two events. The Sun represents our identity. In Gemini, it’s how we express and like to think of ourselves. In Pisces, Mars and Neptune are challenging definitions and beckoning us to reflect upon our spiritual essence. Pisces is the emotional water sign of victims, perspective and holism. Because connections involving the outer planets, like Neptune, take weeks to build and decay, you may have already been feeling Mars presence in Pisces. He’s been poking and prodding hearts for weeks. This may have manifested in the resurfacing of victimhood experiences from your past or from bearing witness to painful current events. Pisces empathizes, deeply and sincerely. To be the final sign of the zodiac, Pisces has earned its miles by walking in all twelve pairs of astrology’s shoes. It therefore possesses profound understanding, and it extends full consideration to all points of view. Its gifts are integration and forgiveness. With “logical” Mercury now fully immersed in the fellow water sign of Cancer, this week offers limitless emotional clearing, healing and transformation. Got tissue?
