Elizabeth's Oracle

Forecast May 25-31, 2020: Not Exactly On The Same Page

May 24, 2020 by Elizabeth Pendleton

If you need a definite answer right now or you’re hoping to completely resolve an issue, that’s going to be tricky to impossible this week. Throughout the week, Mercury is making odd connections with Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto and undergoing a sign change. The angles being formed are not particularly harsh. But being astrology’s quincunxes, they pose their own unique challenges. A quincunx means that the planets involved are 150 degrees apart, so they do not share a common modality (cardinal, fixed or mutable) or element (fire, earth, air or water). Without common ground, coming to an understanding, much less an agreement, is difficult.

Mischievous Mercury plays many roles in astrology. Going back to his Greek origins as Hermes, he was Apollo’s (annoying) little brother, who at the ripe old age of one day crept out of his crib, made the world’s first lyre from a tortoise shell, stole his brother’s cattle and forcefully denied any wrongdoing when confronted by Apollo. To this day we associate Mercury with being clever, quick, inventive and deceitful. So when this little rascal spends a week flitting around the zodiac, chatting with power brokers like Pluto, Jupiter and then Saturn, we might want to get the story completely straight before making any long term decisions. This week’s sign change sees the Messenger moving from his happy Gemini home, where he is especially nimble, adept and talkative, to caring, reflective Cancer. In the cardinal water sign, the busyness of the past few weeks will be replaced by a focus on self-care, the home and security. This sign change could very well portend reinstatement of shelter in place orders. Cancer is where Mercury will spend his coming retrograde, from June 18th-July 12th. We’ll enter that retrograde’s shadow next week and exit it on July 26th. For now, news about business (quincunxes to Pluto & Jupiter in Capricorn) and medical advances (quincunx to Saturn in Aquarius) will be interesting and intriguing. But to get a better picture, we may need to see what light next week’s full Moon sheds, with a calmer, nurturing Mercury in tow.

Venus, the planet of romance and finance, is moving backwards. This aspect is good for reigniting old flames, recovering money and rekindling old friendships. How it will work for you depends on your unique chart and situation. While Venus is retrograde, there’s a 20% discount on 30 minute readings.
