Quietly in the background, the lunar Nodes have been working their mutable magic. Last May, when all of the cardinal sign action was the center of attention, the Nodes stepped away from the fray and slipped into Gemini and Sagittarius. For the past two months, the planetary focus has been on the dogged fixed signs. On one hand, people whose charts have strong mutable sign placements have felt relieved. For Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces, the pressure’s been off. On that notorious other hand, the role of the mutable modality is just as essential as those of its counterparts. Where the cardinals thrust and probe and the fixed resolve and sustain, mutables dissolve and prepare. Their capacity to soften is accentuated when Venus is engaged. On Thursday, the planet of love will join the Sun and Neptune in the mutable water sign of Pisces. There, she’ll be on course for her own t-square wtih the lunar Nodes.
To review, the South Node (of the Moon), describes the lessons we’ve mastered and the North the evolutionary path before us. Unlike the planets, the Nodes travel backwards, from 29 degrees to zero. Since late October, the Nodes and Neptune have been in t-square of less than three degrees. When one of the outer planets is active, its impact is experienced more collectively than personally, making the exact nature of its influence difficult to discern. This is particularly true in the case of nebulous, elusive Neptune. But make no mistake, the North Node in Gemini, South in Sag and Neptune in Pisces have been busy, subtly activating the 18-21 points in all of our charts. Presently Neptune is direct. During the next month it will continue pressing ahead, while the Nodes move back to the mid-teen-range. Giving us a more explicit experience, the Sun’s square to the Nodes will be exact on March 5th and Venus’s on the 9th. Mercury will enter Pisces on March 15th, conjoin Neptune on the 21st and square the Nodes on March 25th. But Pisces isn’t about thinking; it’s about sensing. For now, we can explore the its devotional realms through the Sun and Venus. In Pisces, the Sun identifies with the individual self and the greater Self or soul, and in Pisces Venus moves beyond material expression into the mystic. Intrinsically she recognizes, and removes, obstacles. This year she’ll have extra support from the Nodes, with the South urging release and the North pointing the way forward. On March 21st, Venus will leave spiritual Pisces for spirited Aries. Between now and then, her journey will cut to the heart of matters, telling us what stands between us and love while offering to dilute it. Underscoring the mutable point, the Moon will move into Virgo on Friday, expanding our t-square to a grand cross and becoming full early Saturday morning. Working much like a super computer, this full Moon, and later Mercury, can crunch all of the incoming intuitive data and help us apply its wisdom practically.
