This week’s activity centers around the new moon and eclipse of late December 25h (or early on the 26th depending on your time zone). The Moon aligns with the Sun, South Node, Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto, already in the industrious earth sign of Capricorn, and Mercury joins them on Saturday. On the macro level, Capricorn deals with business, institutions and systems, and more personally, it pertains to reputation, career and accomplishments. Saturn rules this ambitious and austere sign, and the metaphor of mountain climbing is also often used to describe its traits. Capricorn directs our attention to long-term goals and the practicalities of their attainment. With this amount of planetary weight so squarely placed in the stoic and stern sign, it’s time to strategize for the new year and next decade.
Some accuse Capricorn of being pessimistic, while others claim that it’s simply realistic. Saturn, its ruler, after all has those rings and they delineate a clear and definite boundary. Saturn is also associated with time and limitations. Before the new moon and eclipse, the Sun will trine game-changing Uranus, and following them, it will conjoin benevolent Jupiter, under that Capricorn moon. So some of the characteristically somber tones of Cap are likely to be infused with some excitement and even a sense of optimism, courtesy of Uranus and Jupiter.
Saturn is at home in this stellium and clocking in at a noteworthy 20 degrees. If plans and intentions, aka new year’s resolutions, adhere to its rigorous standards, it’s prepared to add its growing gusto to them throughout most of 2020. Jupiter will be contributing its enthusiasm throughout the year as well because it will remain in Cap until late December of 2020. Equally significant, is Pluto’s presence. Like a nuclear power generator, Pluto will continue fueling these Capricorn energies for the next four years. More immediately, Saturn and Pluto are in fact moving towards their exact conjunction on January 12th. They insist that we take personal responsibility for our personal power in both our current circumstances and for manifesting our objectives. Helping us identify how that works in the “real world” is Mars in Scorpio. The provocative planet is wading through the most intensive degrees of the passionate water sign. From the Pluto-ruled sign, the probing power of Mars may remind us of occasions when we gave away our power or when we failed seize it to advocate for ourselves. However discomforting, revelations from purifying, emotional Scorpio give us the opportunity to reframe past indignities. Doing so can provide great emotional relief, and it can give critical clarity to our intentions for the future. In general, Mars, like Neptune in Pisces, is in a supportive alignment to all of those planets in Capricorn. Emotional and intuitive messages coming through at this time should be assessed and their wisdom integrated. In short, this isn’t a week for simply wishing upon a star and waiting for “The Universe” to do the heavy lifting. It’s time to affirmatively embrace the sober, enterprising and determined magic of the cosmos, commonly known as Capricorn.
