Forecast Jul 15-21, 2019: Go Big & Go Home

All of the watery emotion of Cancer will come to the fore as we close out this year’s solar run through astrology’s cardinal water sign. On Tuesday this month’s second eclipse will bring powerful emotions to the surface under the full Capricorn moon. and later that day Venus, which tugs at our hearts and symbolises what we desire, will form the day’s second exact opposition, to Saturn also in Cap. Thursday’s Venus trine to Neptune will signal the need to put a little love in our hearts, as the old song says. On Friday Mercury will move back into hyper-sensitive Cancer, and by Sunday it will link up with that very late degree Cancer Sun for one more wave. Earlier that day Venus will oppose Pluto, in Capricorn, underscoring the recurring theme of the Cancer 2019 cycle, the Cancer Capricorn conflicts. As I stated back in April in my blog, we will continue to see news about children, law enforcement and hard truths. Best look? a sober mind and a compassionate heart.

Forecast Jul 8-14, 2019: High Tides

In the world of beach flags, a yellow flag is used for areas where caution is recommended and a red flag indicates dangerous conditions. While this week has enough favorable activity to balance things out, it is definitely not slated for smooth sailing. On Tuesday the emotional Cancer Sun will oppose strict Saturn, the planet of rules and restrictions, and on Sunday it will oppose almighty Pluto, the planet of destruction and transformation. In between and on Thursday, combative Mars and chaos-causing Uranus will face off as they square one another, from the obstinate fixed signs Leo and Taurus. All of this happens during the week that falls between the two current eclipses (on July 2nd and 16th). Helping us navigate these decidedly choppy astrological waters will be a Mercury Mars conjunction on Monday and a Sun Neptune trine on Wednesday. It might help to think of Monday’s Mercury Mars meetup as a time to huddle and plan a clear strategy for the upcoming conditions and Wednesday’s Sun Neptune meeting as a two-way radio dedicated to Divine communication. When those yellow or red flags are raised, preparation coupled with the ability to see unfolding events from a higher perspective can help us chart the optimum course. Best look? The stance, clarity and demeanor of a seasoned ship captain.

Forecast Jul 1-7, 2019: Breaking The Waves

A total solar eclipse happens July 2nd

According astrology, this is one of 2019’s biggest weeks. The action includes a total solar eclipse, our next Saturn opposition to the North Node and the start of Mercury’s next retrograde. Fittingly, Mars sets things in motion on Monday when it enters the fixed fire sign of Leo. Tuesday features that new moon eclipse at 10 Cancer 38. On Wednesday Venus changes signs, setting up house in Cancer, and the moon moves into lively Leo. Thursday will see the year’s next Saturn opposition to the North Node, in a series of three, at a formidable 17 degrees. And the week will end as the year’s second Mercury retrograde, from Leo back into Cancer, begins. Between the emotional intensity of the Sun, Venus and the North Node in Cancer and the fire and ferocity of Mercury, Mars and the moon in Leo, passion will permeate the skies and our psyches. If you claim to not know what you’re passionate about, the planets are about to drop some truth on you.

With so many big changes this week, it would be difficult to cover all of them adequately. Next week, I’ll zero in on the Mars transit of Leo, and here are links to articles about the Saturn North Node opposition and the Mercury retrograde. For this forecast, I’m focusing on the eclipse and Venus, both of which are deeply connected to our current Cancer Sun cycle. Cancer is concerned with home, family and emotional security. Because it describes our need for safety, it as one of astrology’s most emotional signs. Being a probing and provocative cardinal sign, Cancer triggers us. Being a water sign, its triggering is most likely going to involve our feelings. The moon is said to represent our intuition and true/inner feelings, and eclipses bring things to light. Notice what gets unearthed as we undergo July’s two eclipses and the retrogrades. Next, Venus is the planet of love and money, two of life’s biggest motivators, and it will be traveling through Cancer from July 3rd-27th. On July 19th Mercury will move back into Cancer. From there it will be digging up the past and also pushing our emotional buttons. Normally nimble, mental Mercury plays it cool and detached, enjoying its analytical, rational perspective. But in Cancer, even intellectual Mercury will be informed by feelings. Additionally, Mercury joins a large group of influential planets presently retrograde. All together, this may feel like a cosmic conspiracy to clean our emotional clocks. When those honest emotions come bubbling up to the surface, Cancer’s challenge will be to act upon and express the truths they expose with care. Best look: treating others and yourself with the love, compassion and support a Guardian Angel would bestow upon the most innocent and vulnerable child.

Forecast Jun 24-30, 2019: Straight From The Heart

Mercury enters Leo for a long summer stay.

The phrase “as one door closes another one opens” is apt for a week that will offer up a cosmic quest that we’ll be wrestling with until late August. The Pisces moon always signals closure, and the 24th’s Venus square to Neptune is the last of the long series of mutable squares we’ve endured since late May. During that time, things crashed and things burned. This final square sweeps away any remaining debris. Next, the moon will of course move into motivational Aries, the enlivening fire sign of ignition and initiation. From there those proverbial doors begin opening. It’s under this Aries moon that the Messenger of the Gods, Mercury, moves into the fellow fire sign of Leo. Normally, speedy Mercury enjoys racing around the zodiac. It fills the airwaves, our heads and conversations with the ideas associated with each sign, and quickly moves on. But it’s next retrograde from Leo back into Cancer will have us (re)-examining our concepts about all things leonine.

On the lighter side, stylish and lavish Leo can be linked to vanity and appearance (those manes) and frivolity and extravagance (those parties). But something deeper fuels those regal flames. Being a fixed sign, Leo is loyal. Its home is the 5th House, so it is innately and highly creative. And signified by the lion, it is the sign of courage, leadership and even royalty. Mercury’s prolonged stay, which includes two tours of Leo, may just be signaling that it’s time to search our hearts for the heroes we strive to be in the world. What are we standing for? What are our values? How do we fight for what we want with love and dignity? In its highest expression, Leo exudes unparalleled generosity and magnanimity. It is the Lion King. When fleet-footed Mercury enters the lion’s den this week, it might just be instigating a much bigger and broader conversation. Of course the upcoming retrograde will take Mercury back into watery, cardinal Cancer. So high-minded ideals will have their sea-worthiness tested when feelings get real. Balancing raw emotions and virtue is a challenging, noble and worthy quest. Mercury will visit Leo from June 26th-July 19 and then from August 11-29th. Best look? A true heart overflowing with valor

Clearing The Last Mutable Hurdle

Since late May it’s been one mutable square after the next, and on Saturday, the 22nd of June, the final stage gets underway. Though more subtle than cardinal and fixed squares, mutable squares nonetheless leave their indelible mark. They are here to clear out what we no longer need and to prepare us for our next big steps. Under an emotional Pisces moon, one that will conjoin oceanic Neptune, we are likely to deeply feel and grieve current losses. That Pisces is astrology’s last sign adds to the sense of finality. This last phase of this nearly month-long process ends with a Venus square to Neptune on the 24th, just a few days into the start of summer. So, if things have been falling apart and away for the past three weeks, there is a reason. Trust that your Soul knows your course, and that soon the puzzle pieces that have been so elusive will soon begin falling into place, finally! Best look? Faith, trust in God and inner peace

Forecast Jun 17-23, 2019: Wrapping Things Up

The Sun gets ready to visit Cancer

From a t-square full moon to summer solstice, this week is big. Things get underway in the shadow of a major square between Jupiter and Neptune from the 16th, leading into a 25-degree full Sagittarius moon early Monday morning. The planets are putting the pressure on all of us to release, make changes or let something important go. Tuesday and Wednesday will see the moon make significant and supportive connections with all three outer planets and Saturn, while Mercury and Mars meet in nurturing Cancer. The shift from mutable to cardinal alignments is telling us that new beginnings are emerging. By Friday we may be feeling festive and ready to partake in Solstice celebrations. But, with one more mutable t-square set to start on the 22nd, we may reach the end of the week with still more details needing to be ironed out. Things are being sorted out. Hang in there and keep your courage handy.

Healing Parental/Childhood Trauma: Pluto And The South Node Oppose The North Node

Capricorn is the sign of authority and fatherhood, Cancer is the sign of nurturing and motherhood, and Aries is the sign of independence and beginnings. During April 4th and 5th, key planets are coalescing in these signs, giving us the chance to reframe childhood traumas and to create new narratives and possibilities. Pluto, though relegated to dwarf status by astronomers, is respectfully viewed by astrologers as the potent planet of the underworld and transformation. It unflinchingly peers into the darkest places in the psyche, with an eye towards reformation. Only when we recognize and acknowledge our most painful experiences can we heal them and create new outcomes. On April 4th, Pluto will align exactly with the South Node of the Moon, the astrological component that describes the past, in Capricorn. The two will oppose the North Node of the Moon, the component illuminating the future, in Cancer.

Oppositions are rarely about either extreme. They ask us to examine each point of the polarity and to find our unique place along their created axis, that is, to synthesize the information each point is shedding light upon and to find our truth within it. Paternal Saturn rules Capricorn and the maternal Moon Cancer, and we also associate Capricorn with parenting and parents and Cancer with childhood and children. At this time Pluto is forcing traumas we experienced in childhood, from father or mother, to the surface, so that we stop recreating them now and in the future. Following the opposition of April 4th is not only the new Moon, but the new Aries Moon. Aries is first sign of astrology and respresents the Self, individuality and autonomy. Indeed, an entirely new trail to blaze is being placed before us.

The Aries Sun will move on to square Saturn on April 10th and Pluto on the 13th, and that new Aries Moon will crescendo to a momentous 29 degree full moon in Libra on April 19th. The traumatic incidents in our lives are never easy to face. We tend to prefer to look away. But doing so doesn’t make their effects disappear. Pushed all the way down or stored in the back of the mind, they continue running us. When we encounter similar circumstances in our present lives, the old scripts come back to life and replay. So, as this opposition builds, the ensuing squares pass and the new Moon mounts to a volcanic 29 degree Libra full Moon, it will be very instructive to notice the situations and people who trigger us. They are showing us what is yet unhealed. At one point or another, each of astrology’s four provocative and initiating cardinal signs will be involved in these alignments. The alignments forming here are also astrology’s contentious squares and oppositions. In order to create the new, something has to give. Obviously, there are a myriad of therapies and processes for unpacking and reframing trauma. Some experiences might require conventional therapy in a formal setting. And, we are also capable of doing inner work ourselves. The one question that it all boils down to and that is most helpful is this: What does safety look like? When we can begin to imagine ourselves being safe, being cared for and protected and being unconditionally loved, new perspectives emerge. With the North Node in the sign of emotional security, care-giving and nurturing, the Cosmos is pointing a way forward. Should we sip that legendary Aries bravery and face down those Plutonian shadows, we may walk into nothing short of an internal paradigm shift.

Beginning on April 30th, Capricorn’s ruling planet Saturn will begin a series of three oppositions to the North Node. It’s as if Pluto opened the door on April 4th, and over the next six months, Saturn will be encouraging us to walk through it. Also both Saturn and Pluto turn retrograde in late April, another indication that cleaning up issues from the past is being supported. Look for further coverage about these North Node oppositions at this blog in late April.

Apr 4th Pluto opposes True North Node 23 Can 03
Apr 5th New Moon 15 Ari 17
Apr 10th Sun Square Saturn
Apr 13th Sun Square Pluto
Apr 19th full Moon 29 Lib 07

Extra: I tend to avoid writing about current events in these columns. However, in this instance, I will go on record to predict that during the time of the astrological events described in this article, extending through the Saturn series of North Node oppositions, the subjects of child sex trafficking and child exploitation will be making the news. With Pluto in institutional Capricorn, it is highly likely that a large operation will be exposed or at least one that has ties to people in prominent positions. Capricorn deals with both banking (money laundering, dark money) and personal reputation and stature. Pluto is digging up dirty secrets, things that have been going on for years (the South Node), and on April 4th both will be confronted by the North Node in Cancer, the sign concerned with children. Saturn represents law enforcement and authority. Lastly, assertive Mars moved into Gemini (the news cycle) on March 30th. Several stories are brewing as of late March 2019. Let’s see what comes into the public sphere between now and early October.

Sun Into Cancer 2014: Turning The Tide

If the past seven months to a year have served up more than your share of intensity, delays or dilemmas, take heart; we are set for a celestial turning point. The cycle ahead will host both a release of planetary tensions and a coalescing of new and progressive energies. The pivotal figure in this cosmic play is none other than the king of planets, Jupiter. Its move from the Cardinal water sign Cancer into the Fixed fire sign Leo on July 16th not only begins the disintegration of the Gand Cardinal Cross, but also strengthens a decisive elemental shift in the heavens. Additionally, Mercury will end a seven-month-long series of personal planet retrogradation when is stations on July 1st, Saturn will turn direct on July 20th and Mars will move past the shadow of its retrograde late in the cycle. Our journey through this tidal change begins at 4:51 A.M. MST on June 21st when the Sun enters Cancer.

Back in April four planets met at fourteen degrees of each Cardinal sign, and that event was bookended by two powerful eclipses. Since then, those four planets have begun to move further apart, lessening the tension between them. For most of us, a noticeable decline in drama should be taking place. During the incoming cycle, one of those four players, Jupiter, will leave the cross for good, and by late July, another key cross component, Mars, will also move from a Cardinal to a Fixed sign. Then the once formidable Grand Cardinal Cross will be reduced to an inexact Pluto Uranus square. For now Pluto is powered down in its annual retrograde and electrifying Uranus set for its yearly unplug starting on July 21st. Those two powerhouse planets will form their final two exact squares between now and March of 2015. But for the time being, the only points of Cardinal contention in the offing are a Mars opposition to Uranus on June 25th, the Sun’s opposition to Pluto on July 4th and its squares to Uranus July 8th and Mars on July 18th and the full Capricorn moon’s opposition to the Sun on July 12th. Even in those uncomfortable conflicts, there is cosmic wisdom to be gleaned. For example, in his book “The Astrology Of Awakening” Eric Meyers shares the following about constructively working with the polarity of sober Capricorn and emotional Cancer.

“Capricorn involves maturation – taking a sober look at the state of things and complying with reality. Since the past is the past, it is unrealistic to attempt to go back and change what happened. Therefore, the most logical and strategic plan (Capricorn) is to completely accept reality. Then we can legitimately become the master (Capricorn) of our emotions (Cancer) instead of being unconsciously and reactively driven by them.”

Jupiter enters the fixed fire sign of Leo on July 16 for a transit that will last until August 2011.

Jupiter enters the fixed fire sign of Leo on July 16 for a transit that will last until August 2011.

Mercury’s retrograde through July 1st, with its Neptunian retrograde undertow, will give us time to revisit unresolved emotional issues. Once direct in social, cerebral Gemini, accompanied by attractive Venus, it will offer new information, contacts and ways of seeing our circumstances. Finally, under that full Capricorn moon, Mercury will move into Cancer, a combination that suggests that the emotional maturity needed to make peace with the past is at hand. Also supporting emotional resolutions during this cycle will be Neptune, Saturn, Chiron and Cancer’s ruler, the moon. In nurturing Cancer, the Sun will trine Neptune on June 29th, Saturn on July 8th and Chiron on the 9th. Also from Cancer, Mercury will trine Neptune on July 18th. These linkups offer opportunities to listen with your heart and to act in ways that foster peace and well-being within yourself and with others. The new Cancer moon of June 27th as well as the lunar transits of fellow water signs Scorpio from July 6th-8th and Pisces from July 14th-16th, will also give us time to reflect, feel and heal. But the days of introspection are numbered.

Jupiter’s move from watery Cancer to fiery Leo not only breaks up the Grand Cardinal Cross, it also rebalances the planetary elemental mix. With Saturn in Scorpio, Neptune in Pisces and Pluto in Capricorn, Jupiter’s year-long Cancer transit has lent considerable weight to the earth and water, or yin, elements of astrology. During most of that time the lunar Nodes were also in the earth and water signs of Taurus and Scorpio. With the Nodes now firmly on the Aries/Libra, or fire/air, axis and Uranus midway through Aries, Jupiter’s move to the fire element broadens the yang or outgoing influence. Later this year Saturn will enter astrology’s third fire sign, Sagittarius, putting an important planet in each fire sign. In short, we’re moving out of contemplation and into action, and the cycle ahead is when changes begin to take form. So, enjoy soaking up care-giving Cancer rays and get ready for your moment in the Sun.

Sun Into Gemini 2014: Setting The Stage

For more astrology news, you can check out my interviews on “Kristy’s Connection To The Soul” and “Surfing The Psychic Waves” with Kristi Walsh.

We’re finally entering the last phase of 2014’s exceptionally long retrograde series. This cycle, it’s mischievous Mercury meandering backwards. But, instead of shaking your fists in consternation or throwing your hands up in the air in exasperation, relax. The coming Sun through Cancer and Leo cycles, when Mercury and Saturn turn direct and abundant Jupiter makes its grand entrance into dramatic, generous Leo, will see the stage curtain rise and the spotlight begin to shine upon you and your endeavors. The Gemini cycle we are now entering is ideal for putting those finishing touches on projects and making those last minute tweaks before showtime. The Sun in observant Gemini and mental Mercury’s retrograde are here to offer you a dress rehearsal. And to be sure we have our act together, another provocative Cardinal Cross is heading our way.

As most of you know, since December 21, 2013 we’ve had one personal planet after the other going retrograde, only to turn direct and pass the cosmic backwards baton to the next personal planet. Venus was retrograde in Capricorn from December 21st to January 31st. Then Mercury went retro from February 6th-28th from Pisces back into Aquarius. No sooner had he/she started moving forward did Mars start marching backwards in Libra, from March 1st through May 19th. Now Mercury is at it again as it prepares for its second retrograde of the year from June 7th through July 1st from Cancer back into Gemini. So, if you’ve felt like the projects you’ve been trying to get off of the ground have been, well, grounded, it has been in the ethers. But all of the effort you’ve been putting in will soon pay off because the best part of 2014 is yet to come. For now, the Sun is moving into articulate, social Gemini, at 8:59 P.M. MST on May 20th, and the days ahead promise to be as productive as they are fun.

GeminiMoon2014

As this Sun cycle gets underway, motivating Mars has just come out of it’s nearly-three-month-long slumber. In the instigating air sign Libra, the sign of justice, beauty and balance, the planet of action will nicely align with the Gemini Sun for the next 30 days and Mercury while it travels through the mutable air sign. The winged one will be in Gemini from May 7th through 29th and June 17th through July 13th. Mars will build more momentum under the new Gemini moon of the 28th, the Libra moon of June 6th-9th and the Aquarius moon of June 15th-17th. Another very favorable aspect occurring at the start of this cycle is the final Jupiter Saturn water trine that will be exact May 24th. We won’t have another Jupiter in Cancer water trine to Saturn (next time in Pisces) until November 2025. So soak up this cosmic combination of possibility and practicality. You can bring your dreams to life, and these two powerhouses, now placed in intuitive water signs, can show you how.

So what happened in your life during the month of April? If two eclipses and the full Grand Cardinal Cross left you with unfinished business, you’ll have another chance to take care of it. Though the intensity level will have simmered down a few notches, some more Cardinal conflict will take place following the June 12-13th full moon. This cycle’s hotspot, the full moon will see Venus in Taurus in direct opposition to Saturn in Scorpio, and two days later intent Mars will square evolutionary Pluto. Helping you choose your battles wisely will be nimble Mercury, reviewing the facts and information in Gemini. On the 19th, the Messenger will meet up with the Sun, offering us an extra dose of clarity. Until then, what do we do with the loose ends that over six consecutive months of retrogradation have inevitably left most of us with? Think big. Think about where you want your life to go in 2014 and beyond, how you want to look and feel by Winter Solstice and what you would like to have happen between then. By clearly seeing your way forward now, with clever Mercury at your side, harmonious air sign collaborations and a soothing water sign trine in the mix, you can make the choices and changes needed to get there.
