The first full week of 2021 begins dramatically, with clever Mercury conjoining metamorphic Pluto in Capricorn on Monday and then austere Saturn in Aquarius on Saturday. In between, the Messenger planet along with Venus and Mars will change signs. Those shifts will put Mercury and Mars on course for an important square late Friday, and on parallel fixed sign paths for the next two months. Mars will be in Taurus from January 6th through March 3rd, and Mercury will be in Aquarius from January 8th through March 15th. One of the hallmarks of the next three years will be the emphasis on fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius). In addition to all being in fixed signs by the 8th, Mercury, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn and Uranus will be at the early degrees of Aquarius and Taurus, where their intersections will trigger the pressure points known as squares. The positive side of early degree placements is that at that stage the energy is young and not fully formed. It has yet to embody the sign’s traits as intensively as it does after crossing the 20 degree mark. This is particularly important when the entrenched, and sometime intractable, fixed signs are involved. When the planets transit this more malleable space, we have a greater capacity to shape the outcomes of the matters being presented to us. Friday’s Mercury Mars square, at 0 degrees, is a resonator to the Jupiter Saturn conjunction from winter solstice. It is also a signal. And though faint, it will give us insight into the signature energies ahead.
By next week the squaring will sharpen, with Mercury to Uranus, Mars to Saturn and significantly Jupiter to Uranus. On January 19th the Sun will enter Aquarius followed by Venus on February 1st, forming a super stellium in Aquarius. In the background, Mercury will be retrograde in Aquarius from January 30th through February 20th. On February 17th Saturn will make the first of three squares to Uranus. The following two will take place on June 14th and December 24th. Because Uranus is an outer planet, the influence of its alignments is months in its building and receding. Additionally, the eclipses will begin a two-year-run of Taurus and Scorpio beginning on November 19th. Curious, data-driven Mercury wants the 411, and assertive Mars furthers whatever purpose it is applied to. In Taurus, this means the tactile and tangible world. Friday’s Mercury Mars square, and its February 10th bookend, present opportune moments for code cracking. At this infant stage, we can survey our circumstances and glean the revelations. Nimble, flexible Mercury, in inventive, improvising Aquarius, is in the toolbox, ready to prepare us for the fluid and fluctuating days at hand.
