Home is one of Cancer’s core concerns. Each year when the Sun rolls through this cardinal water sign family, home and the emotions we attach to them are emphasized. 2020, with its shelter-in-place orders, restaurant closures and work from home business initiatives, has placed even more focus on our dwelling places. This week, a potent Cancer Sun is set to run headlong into Jupiter and Pluto, and the planet that Cancer rules, the Moon, has an eventful journey of its own.
Back in January we experienced a Saturn Pluto conjunction in Capricorn, immediately followed by a full Cancer Moon and eclipse. That time coincided with the emergence of COVID-19 as a global health threat. Capricorn is interested in business, and six months on, the economic impact of the pandemic is becoming more and more apparent. This week a potent late degree Cancer Sun will oppose Jupiter on Tuesday and Pluto on Wednesday. By next Monday’s new Cancer Moon, that Cancer Sun will oppose Saturn at an even stronger degree. In short, we have a week full of reverberations from the Saturn Pluto conjunction of January ahead of us. In the macro-economy, cracks in the once booming U.S. real estate sector have begun to show. Nearly 9% of all federally backed mortgages are in forbearance, in several markets delinquency rates on mortgage payments have doubled year over year, and heavyweight analysts Corelogic are forecasting a 6.6% decline in housing prices for 2020. June is historically a good month for home sales. This is due to seasonal relocation, and in 2020, it was the first chance that many buyers and sellers had to participate in the market. So some metrics from June 2020 will look positive. But informative Mercury in Cancer and retrograding Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto in Capricorn are likely to reveal a harsher and more sobering reality. Also, in between this week’s solar oppositions to Jupiter and Pluto, the Moon will conjoin Uranus in Taurus. Taurus is the fixed earth sign that deals with resources, real estate and banking, and Uranus is the global influencing, outer planet that brings disruption to what it touches. Because Jupiter, Uranus and Pluto are in play, collectively we may be assessing the moral hazards of owners of multiple properties using legal entities to avoid taxation, poor treatment of tenants by corporations in the home rental business or hedge funds buying trailer parks. For most, however, homes are not simply about money. They represent something much deeper. When traversing these more intimate and emotional caverns, astrology offers the Moon.
After making that connection to chaotic Uranus on Tuesday, the Moon will move on to logical, rational Gemini late Wednesday night. By late Thursday evening it will conjoin Venus, the planet that describes who we love and what we value. This meeting may be a good reminder of what is important to us, and it offers mental clarity for decision-making. On Saturday morning the Moon will enter Cancer and its dark phase. Dark Moons represent purging, release and endings. In sentimental Cancer, our heart strings will no doubt be pulled by this Moon. If all of these months at home have led you to evaluate your material possessions or to consider other housing options, this weekend’s dark Moon will help you determine what you’re ready to let go of or what you want to transform. This of course includes stagnant stories and emotions. We’ll begin the following week with that new Cancer Moon, at a hefty 28 degrees, and opposed to pragmatic Saturn. So a little dark Cancer Moon sweeping, and perhaps weeping, may clear the way for improvements.
