“Leo 9 Glassblowers This is a symbol of man’s inexhaustibly creative skill of hand and genius of self-application, and of his inherent urge to perform the tasks to be done and to have justification in the ideals to which he would give expression.”

For those who are well-versed in their studies of astrology, the concept of Sabian Symbols is familiar. For the rest, this is a body of work which assigns specific images to each degree point in all twelve signs. Thus, Leo at 9 degrees is matched with the idea of glassblowers. While this week is action-packed from start to finish, its focal point is the full Moon at 9 Leo 06. Foreshadowing it, on Tuesday, the early Aquarius Sun will square Uranus. That square and the full Leo Moon epitomize the fixed sign friction of current celestial conditions. Thursday’s full Moon will be preceded by a Venus Pluto conjunction, and succeeded by a Sun Jupiter conjunction. This lunar cycle began under a Capricorn Moon that was less than one degree from Pluto. The presence of Venus and Pluto at its zenith suggests the revelation of an important piece of that new Moon puzzle, probably one pertaining to finances. Venus rules material Taurus, from where Mars and Uranus will square this Moon. They are less than three degrees away from it, intensifying pressure and discord. In addition to the Sun, the Moon will be opposed by Mercury, Saturn and Jupiter from Aquarius. Masterstrokes on how to sort through obstacles may appear Thursday night, when the Sun and Jupiter conjoin. Both see life through the lenses of its positive possibilities. That having been said, any resistance that Mercury triggers on Friday, when it opposes the Leo Moon, should be taken into account. Mercury, after all, represents rationality and reason. On Saturday, shortly after the Moon moves into Mercury-ruled Virgo, the Messenger will begin its retrograde.
This time the backwards journey will take Mercury from 26 Aqu 29 to 11 Aqu 01, and it will last until February 20th. In review mode, Mercury will square Mars for the second time on February 10th. That square will most likely reanimate issues that arose on Jan 8th, when Mercury first entered Aquarius and initially squared Mars, on Jan 15th, when Mercury entered the retrograde zone, and from Jan 20th’s Mars Uranus conjunction. Also and importantly, Saturn’s square to disruptive Uranus will become exact on February 17th. Translation, the shock and awe are not set to relent anytime soon. On the luminous side, clever Mercury travels throughout all social spheres, counting kings, thieves, nobles and commoners among his friends. He encourages communication between parties, and applies logic. Above all, he asks us to think! To that end, this week’s full Moon, at Leo 9, offers the following food for thought:
“Here is his contribution to enduring form to things through a private manifestation of the divine breath, and a manipulation of the baser materials of life through a heat that represents his living enthusiasm. The arts and crafts of a culture are both in its first beginnings and its final testimony. The key word is DEFTNESS. When positive, the degree is an effectiveness of personal participation in everyday existence, and when negative, willful or unintelligible distortions of reality.”
