Forecast Dec 16-Dec 22, 2019: Heart Flush

When the Sun enters Capricorn on Saturday, it sets the stage for the next set of eclipses as well as the much anticipated Saturn Pluto conjunction of January 12, 2020. Capricorn, like its cardinal counterparts, is a sign of beginnings. This week Mars in Scorpio will sextile Saturn on Thursday and powerful Pluto on Sunday, giving us some insight into the upcoming Sun cycle and all of its Capricorn components. The Sun’s journey through Sagittarius closes out the autumn season in the Northern hemisphere, and like all mutable signs, it tells us that we’ve reached a completion point. But before we dive into the instigating energies of the coming cardinal cycle, we need to assess what to release and define what is important enough to bring with us when we move ahead. At the end of 2019, a sense of what needs to be grieved or left behind is likely to be stronger than usual. We are reaching the end of the calendar year, and we are reaching the end of an entire decade. Add provocative Mars in emotionally intense and brutally honest Scorpio to the picture, and we are likely to feel a very palpable sense of the energies in our hearts needing to be cleared.

Thankfully for us, astrology’s best analyst, Virgo, has a prominent place in this week’s sky. The intuitive moon moves into the detailed, mutable sign early Tuesday morning and remains there through Thursday morning. That meticulous Virgo moon will square Mercury and the Sun in Sagittarius and oppose Neptune in Pisces, and later on Thursday Mercury will square Neptune. These mutable tensions will force issues, and more significantly, the feelings attached to them, to the fore, in an effort to flush our hearts and to instill clarity. Supporting our transformation, the week’s two Mars sextiles to planets in sober, pragmatic Capricorn, come from purifying Scorpio. The fixed water sign isn’t afraid to get down to the nitty gritty, and with Mars at the helm, the power to offload and shift will be placed firmly into our hands.

Early Friday morning Venus leaves Capricorn for detached, futuristic Aquarius. From this perspective, not only will we be able to see the possibilities for improvement now at hand, but we will be able to see how they serve our evolution and higher good. When Venus squares Uranus on Sunday morning we will be prompted to bring those big Aquarian visions down to earthy Taurus realms. Mars will sextile Pluto shortly afterwards and the moon will be in Scorpio by then, making one more sweep of our energy fields. In fact it will conjoin Mars Sunday evening. So, taking some time midweek to review the past year or decade, to process our losses and to evaluate our aspirations is indeed time well spent. Winter Solstice is the open door we are now stepping through.

Forecast Dec 9-15, 2019: The Great Awakening Has Arrived

The action is non-stop this week, and it all culminates in one of the year’s biggest astrological events, Jupiter’s trine to Uranus. During October and November Mercury traversed its retrograde and shadow zones in emotionally intense and brutally honest Scorpio. During that period, we were given the opportunity to step back, do some earnest soul searching and determine what is important to us as the next year comes into focus. Mercury explored the darkest emotional backwaters of the Pluto-ruled sign. With its new trove of unearthed secrets, it stationed direct on November 20th, signaling that it was time to stop digging and to start implementing needed changes. Since then, the cosmic momentum has only quickened. If the past two weeks were an airplane taxing down the runway, this week we have takeoff.

The week in fact begins with Mercury leaving the fixed waters of Scorpio for Sagittarius, an active, outgoing fire sign, on Monday. By Wednesday Venus will conjoin Saturn, and the full moon in air sign Gemini will build to its late night zenith at a considerable 19:52 degrees. On Friday Mars will trine Neptune and Venus will make its second major connection of the week, this time to reforming Pluto. It is said that when a personal planet, such as Venus or Mars, connects with an outer planet, like Neptune or Pluto, a new cycle gets underway. While all of that is going on, Jupiter’s connection to Uranus strengthens in the background, leading to Sunday’s exact trine.

Though they come to it in different styles. Jupiter and Capricorn both champion integrity. Jupiter is newly arrived into Capricorn (Dec 2nd), and is thus at a tamer early degree. Still, its influence cannot be underestimated. Capricorn is already dominating cosmic activity with Venus, Saturn, Pluto and the South Node transiting the austere earth sign, and Jupiter enlarges everything it comes into contact with. Saturn and purifying Pluto are closely linked now, and their formidable force is intent on clearing out corruption. Jupiter’s trine to Uranus is our first taste of what the expansive planet’s year-long transit of Capricorn is going to activate. Simply put, Uranus shifts paradigms. Its disruptive, innovative force is in Taurus, the fixed earth sign concerned with finances, assets and material resources. Jupiter is in the sign of business, government and institutions. The angle Jupiter and Uranus form on Sunday is a positive one, the supportive trine, and both players are in the productive earth signs, making things very real. Together Jupiter, Uranus and Pluto are installing a systemic upgrade, and this week we will finally get our first glimpse of its magnificence.

Forecast Dec 2-8, 2019: Time To Shine Bigly

Euphoric Jupiter changes signs at the beginning of the week, and in so doing begins its consequential, year-long transit of pragmatic, productive Capricorn. Jupiter takes twelve years to work its way through the zodiac, visiting each sign for about a year. At some point during its travels, it connects with much slower moving Pluto. 2020 is just such a rare occasion, and the two will form exact conjunctions three times next year. I’ll share more about this in my upcoming 2020 overview. For now, start considering the possibilities of the planet of expansion moving through the sign of austerity, goals and earned recognition. These two are far from a natural fit. But with a little ingenuity and vision, the combination can accomplish something substantial. The astrological emphasis is already on Capricorn via the presence of the South Node, Venus, Saturn and formidable, reforming Pluto. By late December the next set of Capricorn/Cancer eclipses will get underway, and in January Saturn and Pluto will be conjunct. Jupiter magnifies everything it touches. So the Capricorn energy is about to increase in immeasurable orders of magnitude. As if to underscore the significance of the Jupiter through Capricorn transit, on Monday Mercury, the planet that informs us, will sextile Pluto, another sign that this is, well, BIG.

The moon rolls into imaginative Pisces on Tuesday, allowing us the chance to take in and consider the vast and various possibilities now at hand. Venus and Mars bring more sweetness to the day with a loving sextile. On Thursday an Aries moon wakes us from all that Pisces dreaming and signals that the time to get up and get moving. It will form some feisty squares to the planets in Capricorn and a harmonious trine to the optimistic Sagittarius Sun. Leave it to Aries to “innocently” stir the pot. Though the moon will settle into grounded Taurus early Sunday morning, by then the Sun’s square to Neptune will be nearly exact. Excesses may be called into question under this one. A Venus sextile to Neptune later in the day will bring practicality and kindness to the situation. In short, a new template is now downloading. Big potentials abound, and Capricorn’s sense of responsibility, indisputable work ethic and sheer determination will be required to realize them. Best look: Splendid outdoor outfitting, especially designed for mountain climbing.

Forecast Nov 25 – Dec 1, 2019: Inspiration Beaming

When the week begins with Venus heading into hard-working Capricorn, you know that we’re about to roll up our sleeves and get down to business. That’s exactly what happens on Monday, and Venus will remain in the ambitious earth sign until December 20th. On Tuesday, the new Sagittarius moon offers a clean slate and that sweet brand of encouragement for which the positive fire sign is so famous. The week’s next signal that the forward progress is well underway is Neptune’s station direct on Wednesday. Since June the giant planet of dreams, illusions and psychic awareness has been retrograde. Now, the spiritual insights we’ve collected and mulled over during the past five months can be put into practice. But the inspiration doesn’t stop there. On Thursday that Sag moon, in the most robust degrees of Sag, will make contact with lucky, expansive Jupiter, Mercury, newly direct, will trine forward moving Neptune, and Venus will trine catalytic, ground-breaking Uranus. This uplifting week’s proverbial cherry on top arrives late Friday night when Mercury sextiles Saturn, giving us some serious cosmic know-how. With optimism beaming from Sagittarius, hunches bubbling up from always over the target Scorpio and musing Neptune and the urge to get real “stuff” done coming from productive earth signs Capricorn and Taurus, this is shaping up to be the pick me up we’ve been waiting on for months.

Sun Into Sagittarius 2014: Keeping The Faith

When the Sun enters the friendly skies of Sagittarius on November 22nd, Scorpio’s dark introspection and intensity will give way to our annual cycle of optimism, hope and expansion.  Add an auspicious new moon accompanied by beautiful Venus, some encouragement and audacity courtesy of Jupiter and Uranus in fellow fire signs, and the game-changing force of our sixth Uranus Pluto square, and the time for positive change is at hand.  Signified by the archer’s bow pointing toward the horizon, Sagittarius prompts us to look ahead.  With 2014 winding down, it’s natural enough to begin glimpsing into the coming year.  The Sagittarius Sun is here to show us the new opportunities on tap.

The enlivening of our spirits gets underway right at the start of the cycle when the Sun joins Venus under a new Sagittarius moon on the 22nd.  Last month when the Sun changed signs, it was also accompanied by a new moon in the same sign.  That was part of a very special trend that will occur through the spring equinox of 2015.  While there are many interpretations to these six new moons beginning on the same six days when the Sun changes signs, mine is this.  The Sun symbolizes our personality and the moon our emotions.  Rather than fighting an internal battle between how we behave or appear to others and how we really feel, we are learning to value and acknowledge our emotions more and to more fully integrate them into our identity.  These two planets have also long represented the principles of masculinity and femininity.  This blending of their energies over a six-month period indicates a further release of outdated gender roles and stereotypes and a stronger shift into new ways of defining both and ourselves.  These alignments also signal a time when social, economic and political issues are increasingly seen from a wider variety of perspectives, and when there is greater gender equality and balance.

Another interesting feature of these six solar lunar meetings is that the first five include Venus.  Venus helps us identify and appreciate what we find beauty and pleasure in.  Though the planet of relationships and relating will be at various stages of its transits, its presence in the same sign as the moon and Sun at the start of these cycles suggests a more heart-centered approach to personal and global issues.  Its presence will inspire us to spend more of our time doing more of what we love, and our connections with one another will be deeper and more authentic.  Finally, this new moon and Sun cycle synchronicity fortifies the characteristics of the respective signs they meet under.

New Sag Moon 2014

Sagittarius is filled with optimism, excitement and inspiration.  Its 9th house vantage point shows us the range of possibilities surrounding us and the far-reaching potentials of present aspirations.  This year when the Sun, Venus and Mercury travel through this eternally hopeful territory, they’ll be buoyed by the considerable forces of Jupiter in Leo and Uranus in Aries.  Jupiter enlarges and expands and Leo encourages and creates.  Uranus awakens and innovates and Aries instigates and explores.  This grouping makes up five of the ten planets we watch the most.  Their meetings in the spirited fire signs at trines and conjunctions, astrology’s most favorable aspects, underscore the Sagittarius imperative to reignite our enthusiasm.  For more on fire sign trines, see my Sun Into Libra 2014 article.  Dates to ponder 2015’s possibilities and potentials include November 22nd with the new Sagittarius moon, November 26th when Venus trines Uranus, December 4th when Venus trines Jupiter and the Sun trines Uranus, and the 14th when the Sun trines Jupiter.  But a Sun Jupiter trine won’t be the only stellar event in the sky that day.  In addition to boosting the effervescence of the planets in the lively fire signs, transpersonal Uranus will pair up with transformative Pluto for their sixth square.
Since June of 2012, these two powerhouse planets have been engaged in a series of alignments at astrology’s right angles, commonly known as squares.  A square forms when two perpendicular lines intersect at 90 degrees.  In astrology these intersections bring conflicting points of view to the fore for resolution.  As outer or transpersonal planets, Uranus and Pluto have been forcing global or big picture issues to a head for some time now.  Prior to the current series, their last noteworthy connections took place in the mid 60’s.  So their societal impact is clear.  This time, both planets have been in astrology’s Cardinal signs, meaning that their purpose is to create and support new paradigms and endeavors.  Some astrologers are correlating this series of seven squares, which concludes next March, with the chakra system.  If that’s true, then the coming square will effect the 6th or third eye chakra.  Whether through the influence of futuristic Uranus alone or enhanced third eye capacity, increased spiritual awareness is part of our next evolutionary step.  Beyond being our affable, adaptable celestial cheerleader, Sagittarius is equally devoted to belief systems, long-distance travel and higher education.  Opposite of curious Gemini, it wants to find meaning in the information it gathers.  Under its enlightened influence, we are called to wax philosophically about the time ahead, not only in terms of our own wishes and agendas, but in terms of the global impact we make.  The sixth Uranus Pluto square happening amidst these aspirational, fiery skies, asks us to dream a bigger dream, one that will make the world a better place, for everyone.
