A new Virgo Moon is this week’s centerpiece. At 25 degrees, the lunar cycle begins near the height of Virgo’s powers. Discernment, dedication and daily routines fall under the domain of astrology’s mutable earth sign. The week will also see both boosts from Sun trines to Pluto and Saturn and disruption from a Venus Uranus square, Mercury squares to Jupiter and Pluto and a contentious Libra Moon. Thursday’s new Moon reset will give us the chance to connect with Virgo’s calm, clear perspective and the Mercury-ruled sign’s stellar organization skills.
The week begins with one of its harmonious aspects, a Virgo Sun trine to Pluto in Capricorn. Both planets are in earth signs, keeping things real and providing stability. But adhering to plans may prove difficult by Tuesday when Venus squares Uranus. In Leo, free-spending Venus enjoys life’s luxuries, and Venus rules Taurus, where Uranus finds itself. The fixed earth sign also appreciates the finer things in life. Their square, however, suggests a struggle with sticking to a budget or the sudden onset of unforeseen, and potentially major, expenses. Venus also rules Libra, and very early on Thursday morning, Mercury in Libra will square Jupiter in Capricorn. Jupiter’s placement in this bout also suggests a battle over the purse strings or the emergence of important financial news. Postponing decisions until after the new Moon might help. The Moon is new at 5:00 A.M. MST at 25 Virgo 01. Its rational, practical outlook will be followed by a supportive and sober Sun Saturn trine in the afternoon. This is a sizable collection of planets singing the praises of self-sacrifice and saving for a rainy day, or perhaps exhaling sighs of relief for previous, prudent planning.
Midday on Thursday the Moon moves into Libra. Ordinarily the lunar transition from Virgo to Libra is a smooth one. These two signs share a penchant for perfection, prefer diplomacy to confrontation and move through life with placidity. But 2020 isn’t normal. This time, the typically implacable Libra Moon will be tested at every turn, by Jupiter, Saturn, Pluto and Mars, from Thursday through Saturday. And none other than mischievous Mercury will be stirring the pot. Watch your words! After mixing it up with the Libra Moon, Mercury ends the week with a square to Pluto. Pluto was known to the ancients as the Lord of the Underworld. Unless you’re absolutely prepared to endure the consequences of the nuclear option, this is not the time to make idle threats. Mercury isn’t afraid to challenge authority, nor is he afraid of mingling with thieves and outlaws. Many an altruistic errand in fact sent the planet’s namesake into the depths of Hades. The Messenger is also on track to square Saturn during the following week. With Saturn and Pluto nearing the conclusions of their retrogrades, one can only begin to imagine what unseemly activity Mercury will begin revealing at end of the week. If the news gets even wackier, the clarity of Thursday’s Virgo new Moon will have offered a firm handle on things. True to his Trickster core, clever Mercury rules Virgo, and is at your service.
