Sun Into Gemini 2013: Messages From the Matrix

The Sun’s entrance into curious, affable Gemini, at 2:09 P.M. PST on May 20th, falls into the larger context of the third evolutionary Pluto Uranus square.  While social Gemini’s spirit of inquiry and celebrated acumen will be in robust supply,  mainly thanks to Mars, the 2013 cycle will come with a distinct undertow.  That’s due to a series of upcoming water transits and trines involving Mercury, Venus, Saturn and Neptune in the immediate forecast, and Jupiter’s looming shift from chatty Gemini to sensitive Cancer in late June.  Adding to the intuitive pull inward are the forming Grand Water Trine of July 17-19th and the Grand Sextile of July 29th.  Even Gemini’s witty ruler Mercury is in on the liquid conspiracy; the trines and squares the trickster forms next foreshadow the larger tale about to be told by giant Jupiter over the coming year.
During the upcoming cycle we’ll be influenced by two strong motives, Gemini’s desire to explore and gather information about our world and Cancer’s need to establish emotional security and define our familial role within it.  Rather than a cliche argument between logical Gemini and emotional Cancer; this is a cosmic invitation to identify and decipher the messages our Gem thoughts and Cancer feelings are sending us.  If we are the nerve endings of a larger matrix connecting everything, then inventory and evolution should be our highest priorities.

Two of the planets in key points of the grid in the Sun cycle and year ahead are Mercury and Jupiter.  Mental Mercury will be in receptive Cancer from May 31st to August 8th, and its retrograde will last from June 26th through July 20th.   On June 10th, the winged one will cross 13 degrees of Cancer, the shadow point of the retrograde.  As explained in the Gemini 2011 edition of the Oracle, Mercury is the planet that travels closest to the Sun and is therefore the one most closely aligned with our identity or ego.  That is not a bad thing in and of itself.  However, the relationship becomes problematic when we use the mind to mine our environment exclusively in search of the data that supports only our story.  In his ground-breaking book “The Astrology of Awakening” author Eric Meyers keenly observes that we express the planets in their egoic and awakened states.  About Mercury, he shares the following:

“It’s necessary for us to use the mind to achieve a sense of order, a prime concern of the ego.  We have named and categorized everything according to our limited ideas and frameworks.  The mind has projected itself on the world and we have all believed it to be true.  But few stop to realize how relative this all is.  When we quiet the mind’s chatter, we can receive from the matrix. … Thinking is secondary to being.”

Jupiter is completing its Gemini transit and preparing for a year-long stay in Cancer that begins on June 25th.  Eric offers the following insights on Jupiter’s egoic and awakened styles of expression.

“Jupiter potentially bolsters our self-interests, but can fall prey to the notion that having more (money, popularity, status, adventure) is always preferable to having less.  As a consequence, we might make unwise, possibly detrimental or immoral, decisions to see to this grandiose priority.  … The more awakened response to Jupiter is to set a course that continues outward, away from self-preoccupation, towards the transpersonal.”

Jupiter conjuncts Mercury May 27th, Venus the 28th, the Moon June 9th and the Sun on the 19th before leaving Gemini on the 25th.  Those of you who follow astrology closely will note that when Mercury and then Jupiter enter Cardinal Cancer, with Uranus in Aries and Pluto in Capricorn, Cardinal T-Crosses will be established.  Like gateways, the squares and oppositions involving the Cardinal signs signal celestial occasions to move beyond thresholds and live in radically new ways.  As the Gemini cycle dawns we find ourselves at an exact Pluto Uranus square, the third of the seven taking place between 2012 and 2015.  Mercury is poised to wade into the water that Jupiter will occupy through July of 2014.  And while the two form those provocative squares to rebellious Uranus and oppositions to destructive Pluto, the Cancer placement also puts them in positions that form agreeable water trines with Saturn and Neptune.   This indicates a cycle that will mix inquiry with innovation.

Some key inquiry dates in the immediate forecast include June 3rd when Mercury trines Saturn and Neptune,  June 7th when Venus trines Saturn and Neptune and June 11th when Saturn and Neptune trine.  Cardinal pops, offering opportunities to try on new perspectives and try out new strategies, include June 7th and 8th when Mercury opposes Pluto and squares Uranus, June 11th and 12th when Venus opposes Pluto and squares Uranus, and June 20th when Mercury and Venus are conjunct and the Sun heads into Cancer.  Into this lively setting, Gemini’s adaptable nature, and seasonal mandate for closure, will support our ability to release and change.  Making the messages from the matrix crystal clear,  aggressive Mars will transit the mutable air sign from May 31st to July 13th.  From there, it and the Sun will form contentious squares to Neptune, giving further insight into what is no longer needed.  Characteristically, in Gemini the planets are talking.  The degree to which we are willing to listen and let go is the degree to which we will successfully navigate the tidal waves on the horizon.  With water comprising 60% of our body weight and covering 71% of our planet, it’s time to dive in.

Sun Into Taurus 2013: Revealing, Feeling & Healing

Special thanks to author and friend Kristy Ayala for her inspiration for this month’s article title.

During the recent Pisces and Aries cycles, most of astrology’s personal planets, including Venus, Mercury and Mars, hung close to the Sun, magnifying the energies of those Sun signs and cycles.  The essence of those Sun cycles was further amplified by the presence of influential outer planets; Neptune has been transiting Pisces and Uranus Aries.  Looking back a little further, we might even say that Uranus, ruler of Aquarius, added a larger dimension to that Sun cycle, and that Pluto’s presence in Capricorn added extra fuel to that time.  Now the Sun is set to enter grounded, earthy Taurus, at 3:03 P.M. PST on April 19th.  Again Venus, Mercury and Mars will be close by, and like with the preceding cycles, we can see the moon’s South Node, also in Taurus, poised to intensify the scene.  But 2013’s Taurus cycle comes with a twist.  While much of the inner cosmos clusters around the South Node in patient, reliable Taurus, Saturn, the moon’s North Node and a full moon solar eclipse oppose them from destructive Scorpio.  Finally, 2013‘s run with the Bull will culminate with the next Pluto Uranus square on May 20th.  Any enduring Tauresean tranquility that we hope to attain from this cycle will be doled out in direct proportion to the truth and love we are willing to experience and express throughout the unfolding days.

What’s love got to do with it?  Quite a bit according to Venus and the South Node.  The planet symbolizing love, Venus is transiting Taurus from April 15th through the new moon and solar eclipse of May 9th.  The South Node describes the past and is presently in review mode, or retrograde, in Taurus.  From there it will connect with the Sun, Venus, Mercury and Mars over the coming weeks.  In fact, the South Node will play a big role in all three of the coming eclipses.  Pluto and Saturn are also retrograde at this time.  This is a celestial directive to scour the past in search of love and to heal.  On the bright side, we can practice recalling the people we love and the experiences that have brought immense joy into our lives.  This remembrance of love infuses the present and extends our light into the future.  On the dark side, we will be confronted by present pain rooted in the past.

The North Node points the way forward.  Presently it is in shamanic Scorpio with unyielding Saturn.  Before we reach the next evolutionary phase, or Pluto Uranus square, ringed, restraining Saturn will insist that we master some lessons.  In purifying Scorpio, it will oppose Venus on April 22nd, the Sun on the 28th, Mars on the 30th and Mercury on May 5th.  These can be occasions for further denial or trigger points for release.  April 25th, with its full Scorpio moon and solar eclipse, is another powerful portal for making peace with the past and seeding the future.  How have we interpreted our negative experiences?  Can we possibly now view the old circumstances from new perspectives?  Even in cases of clear and definite violation, what is the responsible path to justice?  The hand of the Divine was always at work in them. Can we find the love?

Echoing the cosmic cleanup call will be Pluto, Lord of Transformation.  It will trine Venus on April 24th, the Sun on May 1st, Mars on May 5th and Mercury on May 6th.  Like Saturn, it will insist on honest, forthright answers.  Creative Neptune and healing Chiron, in holistic Pisces, will also help guide our passage through unfinished business.  They are part of the forming Grand Water trine, a point when our feelings will play a strong role in our perception of life.  While they inform us, we are not our emotions.  They are an invitation to inquire.  Our work is to delve beneath their surface for the truth, and to heal what is not love.  Lastly on the water front, this year’s (water sign) Scorpio cycle will see both another Uranus Pluto square, on November 1st, and another Scorpio eclipse, on November 3rd.  They are the astrological complement to the work we begin now.

Following Aries annual fireworks, the Sun’s entrance into placid, peaceful Taurus is usually a welcome relief.  The fierce and feisty energies of the Ram’s cycle settle into the stable and sturdy territory of the Bull.  In the Northern hemisphere, we marvel as the natural world returns to life, bountiful and boundless.  A sense of serenity is restored.  The 2013 Taurus cycle is more challenging than usual and will conclude dramatically with the next Pluto Uranus square.  This three-year-cycle is a gateway to ascension.  Reflecting on nature’s abiding ability to start afresh and to flourish is the starting point.  The stars are aligning to help us reconcile the past as we intone the future.  The critical question here and now is do we want to hold on or move on, and its answer is love.

Sun Into Scorpio 2012: Eliminate To Generate

“Come to the edge,” he said.
They said, “We are afraid.”
They came.
He pushed them….
They flew.
– Guillaume Apollinaire

Emotional, fixed Scorpio thrives on intensity and change, and the Sun will dive into its purifying waters at 5:14 P.M. PST on October 22nd. Material matters will surface courtesy of a full Taurus moon on the 29th and a total solar eclipse conjunct the lunar nodes on November 13th. A provocative full Cardinal cross will precede the Mercury retrograde that begins on Election Day in the U.S. Saturn and Pluto will begin strengthening 2013’s evolutionary Uranus Pluto squares. And, Neptune and Chiron, turning direct in reflective Pisces, will connect us more directly with our intrinsic truths. In the grand scheme of things, new dimensions and higher levels of awareness are opening up to us. To access them, we must journey through solemn Scorpio’s passageway.

October 29th’s full moon in physical, security-oriented Taurus will be opposed by restricting Saturn and the willful Sun in truthful, transforming Scorpio. This super moon is connected to 2012’s Venus occultation, 2013’s Uranus Pluto squares and the lunar node placements lasting into early 2014. It is a call to strike a healthy balance between the our spiritual essence and material needs. It is also an opportunity to examine and release the financial fears that ironically limit us. Occurring two days before the Celtic holy day of Samhain, it is a summons to look within, reconcile losses and dedicate ourselves more fully to the spiritual work we came here for. This meaningful moon will receive a friendly trine from evocative Pluto in industrious Capricorn. Infused with this lunar wisdom and inspired by practical plans for the future, we enter a Cardinal gateway of Light the first weekend of November.

Abundant Venus has two celestial abodes, and she will be residing in her harmonious Libra lair when the moon comes home to its native Cancer from November 3-5th. With Pluto and Uranus settled into Capricorn and Aries, the cosmic stage is set for initiation. If the full moon or Samhain/Halloween purging has worked its magic, then new offers and opportunities will begin materializing in early November. Discouraging unwisely impulsive decisions, clever Mercury will turn retrograde on November 6th. Lasting until November 26th, this transit will provide ample time for studying details and carefully reviewing facts and figures before moving ahead. And with the Messenger traveling all the way back to 18 degrees of probing Scorpio, deceit, abuse and deception will be exposed. Mercury, Saturn and the Sun are intent on clearing corruption and instituting the honesty and integrity now critical for planetary evolution.

October 29, 2012

Mercury re-enters sacred Scorpio on November 13th, the day of a total solar eclipse. This new moon eclipse in Scorpio is conjunct the lunar North node. In general terms, the moon’s South node describes the past and its North points the way forward. The Taurus Scorpio opposition created here concerns resources and power. In late August the Nodes shifted into Taurus and Scorpio, where they will be in influence until February 2014. Here they will intensify the current Scorpio directive to fully integrate our spiritual beliefs with our economic practices and the care we give to our physical bodies.

The “let go to grow” mantra being sounding now will be booming by the time we reach 2013’s Pluto Uranus squares. They will take place on May 20th, the final day of the Taurus Sun cycle, and on November 1st, in the midst of next year’s Scorpio solar sojourn. By then stern, structuring Saturn will be adding more of its considerable weight to the equation. The ringed-planet is after all Capricorn’s ruler, so it supports Pluto’s presence in the sign of pragmatic progress. Reciprocally, Pluto respects Saturn’s disciplined prowess in its home sign of destructive Scorpio. In short, Pluto in Capricorn and Saturn in Scorpio understand and mirror each other. In these placements, their energies are complementary and mutually fortifying. Mars will amplify their power when it moves through ambitious Capricorn from November 16th through December 25th. This is the fuel for setting and ultimately reaching conscious goals. The Sun’s coming placements in Taurus and Scorpio on the exact days of the next Pluto Uranus squares will reinforce the work we undertake now.

Scorpion change is often dramatic, turbulent and obvious. By contrast, fellow water sign Pisces works more like waves upon rocks. It dissolves so subtly and gently that its influence is usually only recognizable over time. The planet it rules, Neptune will turn direct on November 10th as will healing asteroid Chiron on the 14th. Both are in holistic, integrating Pisces, the sign that also completes the zodiac. Thus the planets in these collaborating water signs are on message: release to regenerate. The Neptunian element here assures us that even in the midst of great upheaval, peace is always available. The boundless, artistic planet instructs us to turn inward. There we can center ourselves. From the void of a quiet mind, inspiration emerges. Aligned with its clarity, we know precisely which steps to take next.

“And now I see with eye serene,
the very pulse of the machine
A being breathing thoughtful breath
A traveler between life and death”
William Wordsworth
